WELCOME!!!
TO THE CLASS OF 1960 WEBSITE
On June 2, 1960, a "close knit" graduating class numbering 413 graduates was born on a hot night in the Saxon gym. This "close knit" class of many talents was destined to be a subject talked about for many years by faculty and parents when the subject of outstanding graduating classes came up. Our class has remained "close knit", one of accomplishment over the years, and currently is doing the following in that regard:
- Reunions:
Our class of '60 has had well-attended reunions every five years since graduation, Should our class hold a 65th
-Reunion it will be on the first weekend of August in 2025. The pandemic postponed our 60th reunion that would
have been in August 2020 and it became a BIG GATHERING and was held the weekend of August 5-7, 2022.
Around 100 Classmates, Spouses, Partners, and Friends of the class attended. Highlights were a tour of the
South/Leslie remodel project, a Grand Picnic Gathering at Nielsens, and some other ancillary events.
This year, on the first Saturday in August, the 5th, we will hold our traditional class picnic at Nielsen's.
Mark your calendars to attend on August 5th. It starts at Noon. A class email will be forthcoming with more details.
See you there.
Once a Saxon, Always a Saxon !!!!!
- Class Project: Annual scholarships given to graduating Saxon seniors as a way for us to "pay
forward" education opportunities to deserving students. We have set up a fund we can make
regular tax deductible contributions to. We urge you to make donations toward scholarships for each graduating class by mid April of their graduation year, as scholarship selections need to be made in May. Donations made later
in the year will be applied to next year's scholarships. See the link "Scholarship Class Project" at the
right for information about how to give, who has donated, amount given to date, student
qualifications, and contact information if more information is desired.
- Picnics: The first Saturday in August, every year in the four years between the five year reunions,
we have a pot luck picnic at one of our classmate's country estates. There are some photos taken at
some of these picnics in the Photo Gallery at the right. We send a reminder notice of the picnic each
year to classmates on the current mailing list. See "Contact Us" at the right if you want more
information about these picnics.
- Monthly "No Host" Get Togethers: Our class congregates on the second Tuesday of the month from 4PM to 6:30PM at the South Liberty Bar & Grill, 4682 Liberty Rd., S. (across from Sunnyslope Center & Roth's Market - MAP) to eat, drink, and be merry. Several spouses and friends of our class attend and the main theme is "enjoy each other". See "Contact Us" at the right if you want more information about these get togethers.
- Christmas Social: Every year, on the first Sunday in December, there is a no host social held in Macleay at the
Macleay Country Inn (MAP) attended by graduates of Salem area high schools. The
attendees are primarily from the classes that graduated in the 50's and 60's. It is a great way to kick
off the Christmas season. Come join in.
A very special thank you to retired South High computer instructor Dan Mills for all his help and data input to keep our website updated.
